Meeting Rozzy Halfway is a heavy read with little joy Why the stars then Because I feel it did something many books about those struggling with mental illness haven t it exposes the underbelly of those family members who resent and try to fix those affected It revealed a father who was so beautifully interested in his extra ordinary intelligent daughter until her mental illness began to express itself Rozzy goes from being the apple of her daddy s eye to a plague I hated the moments where the pa [...]

It s an interesting depiction of how the mental illness of an adolescent girl effects her sister, told from the point of view of the sane sister I m surprised it doesn t seem to have been widely read.

I first learned about author Caroline Leavitt from an article in the January February 2017 issue of Bookmarks magazine Her novels sounded like books I would enjoy so I decided to give her a try This is her first novel, published in 1980 It deals with two sisters, Rozzy and Bess, who are as different as night and day Rozzy is a dark beauty and the oldest by four years Bess is fair Despite their age difference, they are close and need each other as if they were identical twins.By the time Rozzy is [...]

This was a tough one to read A very normal family of mother, father and two daughters and what happens when one of them is stricken with mental illness of a psychotic kind Rozzy is the apple of her father s eye He thinks the world of her when she is born, and believes she is capable of greatness His ambition for her is boundless When Bess is born, she comes a poor second for the father and this is apparent throughout the book But what does Ben do when his bright star turns out to be really ill H [...]

MEETING ROZZY HALFWAY by Caroline LeavittDespite the fact that I found this novel totally lacking in joy, the story of this dysfunctional family wasn t easy to put down Not only does Rozzy have a deep darkness about her, the entire family is tainted by strange conduct Her supposedly sane sister doesn t always behave rationally In truth, I was in no way uplifted by the plot but It does make compelling reading I found it rather sad that there were no happy endings, but have lots of admiration for [...]

I thought this book was very well written I m a big fan of Caroline Leavitt This book is about two sisters as different as opposite sides of a coin, yet each incomplete without the other It is a beautiful and sensitive story of sibling rivalry and sisterly love, of family relationships and how they work I read this book fast because I couldn t wait to reach the end to find out how everything ended.

She is a favorite author of mine but this was not a favorite book The information on mental illness was good but I found that the story was a little boring and not very believable.
