What an interesting book And a promising start to what seems like a very intense and intriguing series Our hero or should I say Fool Benjamin, is a high school teenager, on the brink of real life And in this book, he encounters his Magician , Craig Motorcycle gangs, drinking and drugs, and getting into fights Benjamin encounters all these with Craig, and gains an interesting perspective Will this be the kind of life he chooses Or is there something in store for him As an author who also studies [...]

Man, you missed it Your lesson wasn t overNo matter how hard you try, Benny, you ll never have what you had You ll never be what you were. This short novella is the first in a twenty one part series It follows Benjamin Porter the Fool through part of his adolescence He is fifteen when the story opens Ben or Benny, but not Benji is observant, a bit naive, and a bit drawn to trouble and violence When we first meet him, he s incredibly interested in Craig Marse the Magician , whose father helped cre [...]

To really understand this book, I recommend reading up on specific Tarot card meanings, specifically The Fool and The Magician This book uses the meanings of the cards as a way to tell the story of the characters The first book, The Magician, is a novella, with other stories about Ben s life to follow However, the characters themselves do not make a lot of sense.Ben is The Fool and Craig is The Magician I do not really see Craig as any kind of trickster He s just a kid who hangs around a bad cro [...]

I ve developed a liking for continuing stories delivered in short bursts They re perfect for a quick read at lunch or bedtime, especially when they grab a reader s interest quickly The Magician is a great example of that Not knowing a lot about the tarot, I wasn t sure how well I d like this one, but that wasn t a problem I was quickly caught up in Ben s story as enters the coming of age journey I think we ve all been in a place in our lives where we felt the need to fit in and the urge to give [...]

Mark s story telling is amazing It s easy to be lost in his worlds They feel vibrant and real In this tale, the first of twenty one planned novella s following the major arcana of the tarot, we re introduced to the protagonist Ben Porter The world is gritty Biker gangs, drugs, and major life decisions face young Ben as he deals with his friend Craig I recommend this story and look forward to future installments as they are available.

Ben took inventory of the damage he sustained A cracked rib or two, swollen eyes, jaw and nose hurt but not broken, cut lip, loose tooth He shook his head You think that guy s gonna be okay Come on, let s get you home The music in the car was loud, giving Benjamin time to ruminate on the evening He liked the Ben who walked away from the fight with Cedric, and disliked the Ben on this All Hallows Eve A Fool s Journey Book 1, The Magician by Mark Pannebecker I received a copy from the author in ex [...]

Mark Pannebecker s evocative writing style shines in The Magician, the first novelette in his ambitious 21 part series A Fool s Journey The story of young, naive Benjamin Porter and the mystical influence of Craig Marse achieves a stunning balance between grit and sensuality The brief, bright images in this book s few chapters set the stage for the Fool s coming of age.

The Magician is the first novella in a series of twenty one themed around the Tarot deck It focuses upon Benjamin Porter, a fifteen year old kid with a fighting habit who falls in with Craig Marse and a local motorcycle gang Ben is the Fool and Craig the Magician in the series symbolism which will apparently follow through Ben s life, though in this first installment the focus is mostly upon drug dealing, fighting, and car stealing. The short, snappy feel will appeal to those who enjoy that kind [...]

I was sent an e copy of the book for an honest review All thoughts and opinions are my own My Rating 1 starAlmost entertaining Not my cup of tea Jumped around too much No solid plot Uninteresting characters that I wasn t connected to at all I m still not sure what it s supposed to be aboutYou d think that a short story would have at least 1 thing that I found interesting, but it was just t good I don t like the writing style, the characters, or the story I knew from the first page that I wouldn [...]

Disclaimer I received an electronic version of this short story in exchange for an honest review. It s hard to get invested in a story that opens with too many characters who are hard to differentiate and even harder to identify with Though the basic world building is accomplished with well written descriptions, no major conflict is introduced to get me hooked.Even problematic than the multitude of characters is the presentation of the female characters, who are defined almost solely by their se [...]
