Even if it s hard to see Darcy marrying another, the plot is really interesting and I enjoyed the style of the author.

PP meets Cond Nast and the Continent Traveler 3.5 stars round to 4 stars This story was a quick read If you love travel and love Italy, this would be an excellent read However, on the other hand, that gave it a travel log ish feel to it and soon overpowered our love story The reader was bombarded with travel ventures, how they traveled, where they went, what they saw, the history of the area, the art, churches, statues, the spa areas, historical buildings, local legends, family histories and wha [...]

I have to say that this did not become a 5 star review until the very end when I had tears. Most of the book seems to be a travel guide, especially for the city of Florence, Italy I have never been to France or Italy where most of this novel was set I am not even familiar with all the artists listed and thought to myself that I should be on my computer pulling up photos and history concerning all the art work, cities, statues, etc listed and described herein I may have to go back some day and do [...]

One of my top ten variations of Pride and Prejudice I simply love everything that happens on When they fall in love Darcy and Elizabeth in Italy by Mary Lydon Simonsen. After the proposal at the parsonage, Darcy chooses a bride and in a few months they are married and eventually they have a lovely daughter, Alexa You can imagine how Elizabeth may be feeling. However, the book does not start at that point The book introduces the happy Bingley family and her governess, Miss Elizabeth Bennet Lizzy is [...]

I LOVED this book This is a wonderful retelling of Pride Prejudice with a twist. In this brilliant story seven years have passed since the disastrous proposal in Kent Set backs in the Bennet s finances have unmarried Lizzie serving as governess to the Bingley s daughter Darcy is living in Florence with his young daughter having recently become a widower This story is enjoyable and a quick read.

TYPE OF AUSTENESQUE NOVEL Alternate PathTIME FRAME The spring and summer of 1821 Around seven years after the close of Pride and PrejudiceIN CHARACTERS Elizabeth Bennet, Mr Darcy, Alexandra Darcy, Jane Bingley, Charles Bingley, and Cassandra BingleySCENARIO What if Elizabeth never encountered Darcy on her tour of Pemberley What if Mr Darcy thought it was pointless to pursue Elizabeth a second time and married another woman What if, seven years later, Darcy invited the Bingleys, their daughter Ca [...]

WOW Loved this alternate version I think this book is my favorite of all the books by Ms Simonsen As you can see I read this book in a day I could not put it down Here goes my review I m sure I ll not do justice to it This story starts out 7 yrs after the imfamous proposal Elizabeth is living with the Bingleys and taking care of there 5 yr old Cassie They just purchased an estate in Derbyshire and there doing renovations so on the suggestion of Bingley s friend Darcy they go on a tour of the con [...]

This is a Pride and Prejudice variation After the failed Hunsford proposal Darcy believes that Elizabeth will never accept him as a husband and he marries a suitable society bride in haste, on the rebound Due to his wife s poor health, amongst other reasons, he leaves England and has been living in France and Italy for the past seven years Darcy is now a widower with a six year old daughter, and he invites the Bingleys Charles, Jane and their five year old daughter Cassandra to visit him, along [...]

Elizabeth Bennet, dismayed by her ill words to Fitzwilliam Darcy after his disastrous proposal at Hunsford, has reluctantly accepted her lot in life for her refusal of him She s serving as a governess aunt to Jane and Charles Bingley s daughter, Cassandra and she s not happy about it Realizing that Charlotte s practicality in marriage was valid, Elizabeth is grateful and a bit bitter that she is dependent on her sister and brother in law for survival While in France, the Bingleys are invited by [...]

When I found out that Mary Lydon Simonsen was writing a Pride and Prejudice inspired book that took place in Italy I was so excited Ever since I was able to travel to Italy two years ago I ve loved it and and I can t wait to go back Now, reading about the combination of my two favorite literary characters with Florence was enough to make me want to go out and buy the book ASAP, and that s exactly what I did once it came out So, without further ado, let s travel to Italy. We all remember Mr Darc [...]

When They Fall in Love is a beautiful Pride and Prejudice variation that places Elizabeth and Darcy in Italy In true Simonsen fashion, we not only get a lovely story of Elizabeth and Darcy falling in love, but we also get a bit of a history lesson, and in this case, we get to tour Florence with beautiful descriptions of paintings and sculptures When They Fall in Love is a new twist on an old classic It has been seven years since that disastrous proposal at Hunsford, now Elizabeth and Darcy will [...]

When They Fall in Love by Mary Lydon Simonsen is yet again another favorite After Elizabeth has refused Mr Darcy, he marries another and is away to Europe Jane and Mr Bingley marry, but after the birth of her first child Jane finds herself weak and wanting the benefits of visiting the spas Elizabeth travels with Charles and Jane across Europe acting as the governess to their daughter, but the group finds themselves in Florence with Mr Darcy as their host After losing his wife to illness and rais [...]

The descriptions of Italy, the paintings, the countryside, the food, the people and festivals are the best part of this book I enjoyed the new characters to the story as well as they were quite a natural extension of the story However, this book is one long version of the same misunderstanding Elizabeth does not recognize that Darcy is courting her Then in the very last moment of the book they confess their love and one epilogue later the book is over.

  14. Claudine DiMuzio / Just Jane 1813

PP with an Italian Flair I enjoyed touring Florence with our dear couple The daughter Alexa was adorable and added just enough humility to Darcy s character as a widower I would have enjoyed romance I really enjoy sequels than variations But what can I say I keep reading these variations

  15. Nicol Legakis

This was a great re imagining of Pride and Prejudice I really respect the amount of research Ms Simonsen puts into her books They are historically accurate and richly detailed I hope she continues to create Pride and Prejudice fan fiction.

  16. Danielle

This was very well written and believable The characters were altered after 8 years enough to show that they have learned from the past but no so much that they were no longer the same If you love Italy and PP you will love this story I had it read in 2 days because I couldn t put it down.

  17. Sandra Gebhard

SweetItaly, Elizabeth, and Darcywhat could a reader ask How about believable story, good editing, and a few weepy moments.

  18. Laura

This was actually my second time to read this one, and I would actually give it a 3.5, as it was an enjoyable read Darcy is a widower with a child who convinces Bingley and Jane who are touring the continent with Elizabeth as their daughter s governess to visit several places, including his villa in Florence Obviously we learn that Darcy s intent is to get Elizabeth to Florence as he has never stopped loving her I liked that Darcy and Elizabeth are constantly in each others company and the book [...]

When They Fall In Love is a story of dreams, regrets, and a leisurely holiday in Tuscany Life does not always turn out as expected, and much can change over the course of seven years So it is for Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. When Elizabeth and Darcy meet again, Darcy is friendly and surprisingly approachable, apparently due to a brief but happy marriage Elizabeth has not married, and has instead taken her young niece, the daughter of Jane and Charles Bingley, under her wing Darcy has i [...]

This wasn t an Austen variation about Elizabeth and Darcy it was an art history politics geography lesson There was plenty of information about various cities in France and Italy, but almost no story What story it had was like a summary of a short period in someone s life rather than an engaging tale that I wanted to experience Pretty much Darcy shows Elizabeth the sights around Florence and she gives him advice on how to help him keep his daughter from being so clingy The only conflict was a f [...]

  21. Patricia

A wonderful travelogue of Florence with a subtle romance between Elizabeth and Darcy I really enjoyed the rich detail and description of the travels of Elizabeth and the Bingleys It was one of those books that is difficult to put down, and I nearly read it without stopping Very enjoyable

  22. Allison

I get the feeling Simonsen has been to Florence a lot and just wanted to showcase her knowledge of the city s history or something It s possible this story could have been better if it was longer and fleshed out, but this just kind of felt like a synopsis or something.

  23. Katherine

The only part I didn t like about is book was the fact that Darcy married another after his disastrous proposal at Hunsford to Darcy but once you realize why he d that and how he feels about Lizzy I loved it Great version
