ISBN 9781445610238General Subject s History Tudors Biography Anne Boleyn Henry VIII 16th CenturyTitle Anne certainly provokes serious controversy, especially among historians Baldwin Smith, I believe, is the first to acknowledge this in the title Most historians don t make as much out of it Certainly no other English Queen is as debated.General Analysis I was very disappointed in this latest offering on the multitude of debates surrounding Anne Boleyn Lacey Baldwin Smith doesn t seem to have int [...]

This is less a biography of Anne and a set of book reviews with so many digs at Eric Ives, you d think he owed Smith money A complete dismissal of all evidence, a half hearted attempt at support for one person s almost completely evidence less theory and the absence of any semblance of political thought and ability to link known facts makes this a book to avoid.Disappointing.

I liked the topic enough to want to read much about Henry VIII and his wives but this particular author took too much time pointing out that no one really knows the truth about 95% of the story Then goes on to explain why each of Henry s most notable biographers might have it all wrong PS I m upping him to 4 stars and recommending the book for anyone who can stand some dryness in order to get the accuracy I just read about Henry s 6 wives by Gladys Malvern and it was awful Partially because she [...]

Smith gives an interesting overview of the life of Anne Boleyn and the controversies surrounding it by contrasting four different biographers findings and opinions, but doesn t really add anything new.

I learnt so much about the tudor era from this book and look forward to getting as much from his other books If I can find them at my local library that is.
