Writing Events in Bath...
Our November 2009 event in Mr B's Emporium of reading delights was . . .
HOW TO WRITE A DREAM JOURNAL-
with Alex and Jude
Jorge Louis Borges said 'Writing is nothing more than a guided dream", so why do we sometimes dismiss our dreams as a creative source? All dreams are worthy of attention -fragments and vague feelings as well as complex, vivid dreams. Jude and Alex introduced different ways of remembering, recording and exploring dreams to gain insight and inspiration for further writing.
Dreams have been the catalyst for many a writer and artist to produce poems, songs, short stories and novels. Steven King wrote Misery after a dream, Mary Shelley dreamed Frankenstein and more recently Isabel Allende dreamed the last chapter of her novel and Paul McCartney dreamed the tune for Yesterday.
Jude Higgins is a Gestalt Psychotherapist and creative writing mentor who has been helping others explore their dreams for over twenty years. She has run several therapeutic dream residentials, evening group and early morning 'dream breakfast groups' and has written several short stories sparked off by dreams.
Alex Wilson is an Analytical Psychotherapist and creative writing mentor. In her work, she uses dreams to access the unconscious and believes that dreams are a vital way of keeping the imagination alive. She has written stories inspired by dreams.
Fifteen people attended and brought dreams to work on for story ideas and self-development.
We're waiting to see if anyone would like to post their finished stories inspired by dreams on our website.
